Meet the Band

Jamie.jpeg

Jamie Daly (mandolin, guitar, bass, vocals)

Jamie has played in various DC-area acoustic groups since 1985, none of which had enough Dead in the set list. Two of those groups, The Outpatients and The Constituents, are still current. He lives in South Arlington with wife Mina Stanard.

What are your interests, hobbies, family, favorite artists, songs?

Jamie: I've played in acoustic bands since the late 70s college days - rock, bluegrass, folk, then back to (mainly) rock. I live with my wife Mina (no kids, no pets) in South Arlington. We like to travel and scout out new places to eat. My current favorite non-GD bands are the Gourds, the new NRBQ, and Donna the Buffalo.

Describe your band's music.

Jamie: Acoustic Grateful Dead. We usually play 2 sets and try to emulate the classic GD concert form, playing not just the country-style songs that one would expect an acoustic GD band to perform but also tackling the longer intricate jamming songs. Currently we play one Steve Neugeboren original tune per set.

When did you start performing? How did you meet?

Jamie: We met in February 2010 at a 50th birthday party of a mutual friend in someone's home. Steve and Dave were performing there as an opening act duo. We jammed in the living room later that night and felt the chemistry. Our first gig was three months later.

Steve Neugeboren (guitar, vocals)

Steve recently played with the DC Area Grateful Dead tribute band, On the Bus. Having moved off the bus and into an unplugged format, Steve contributes his own original material to the band's performances.

What are your interests, hobbies, family, favorite artists, songs?

Steve: When I’m not playing music, I’m attending concerts or playing golf with my sons.

Describe your band's music.

Steve: I love playing with Dave and Jamie because, besides their being great musicians, we are all good listeners, who don’t overplay.

When did you start performing? How did you meet?

Steve: I wanted to start a Dead acoustic band and placed an ad on craigslist and found Dave, and then, as Jamie described, met him jamming at a party. We put him through the paces with some obscure and challenging Dead, and he shone, and was in.

Dave Wolf (guitar, bass, fiddle, vocals)

Dave hails from Maryland, is deeply versed in the bluegrass form and is enjoying a return to the Dead material he loved when it all began.

What are your interests, hobbies, family, favorite artists, songs?

Dave: Music is my primary hobby, along with hiking the Patapsco River and the old railroad lines found there.  I play bluegrass with another band and attend several jams on fiddle and mandolin. I am married to Lynn Wolf, a classical musician, and have two grown children who have careers in music and art . My favorite non-Dead bands are the Seldom Scene and any group that has Chris Thile as a member including the Punch Brothers.

Describe your band's music.

Dave: I think we capture the essence of the Dead material without necessarily matching it note for note.  The acoustic format gives the songs a fresh new sound and I really enjoy the three part harmonies.

When did you start performing?  How did you meet?

Dave: We met at a party and the chemistry was obvious immediately.  We have all performed different types of music from Bach to Bill Monroe and have found a common ground with the Dead catalog.
